The Gertrada Malgas Foundation was founded in 2014 with the goal of bringing awareness to the plight of children who suffer from Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS).
Over the years, based on the needs in communities where FAS is present, we expanded our scope to address both the immediate and long-term needs of children and youth within these communities.
We have implemented needs-based programmes to redress the inequities of apartheid and to help disadvantaged children and youth to be able to realise their inherent potential. Within the changing South African context our programmes have evolved reflecting the needs of communities.
Our aim is to escalate our operations to ensure that we not only address their immediate needs, but tackle some of the deep social and economic challenges which give rise to food insecurity and FAS.
As such, we have developed an integrated holistic development model (theory of change), which serves both as our vision, for what we seek to achieve, as well as a roadmap for that change to come about.
The Gertrada Malgas Foundation, with the assistance of our generous donors, feeds between 150 and 200 people two nutritious (dietician approved) meals per day.
Our focus area is the informal settlements in the Philippi Horticultural Area (PHA).
For the sustainability component of our projects we have started a company, Banu Ebrahiem (PTY LTD), which covers the Enterprise Development component of our holistic community development
We are 100% black owned with a BBBEE level one status.
